A leading German blogger, net politician, and economist, Robin Meyer-Lucht, died a few days ago. Robin was a witty and kind person; an an inspiring leader as the founder of Carta.info.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Robin as he was an early adopter and promoter of social payments. A highlight of my trip to Germany in June 2010 was meeting Robin in person, along with our colleague Ansgar Werner (e-book news and krautfunding.net) at the famous German Federal Press House (Bundespressekonferenz) in Berlin. I remember vividly the lively conversation that Robin, Ansgar and I had regarding internet business models.
Robin was one of the few people that has ever complimented me on having the will to start Kachingle. And he had a great and believable theory about why Germany was one of the first countries to experiment with social payments. He also wrote the first article ever in German about Kachingle and social payments in Der Spiegel – “Panik ist kein Geschäftsmodell“, published February 17, 2009.
Robin was an early adopter, a risk taker, and a visionary. He will be greatly missed in the blogosphere, including by many of us in the United States.
My condolences to his family, friends, and many colleagues.
