Bob is a veteran journalist who loves basketball, Bach and connecting with Arlington, Mass., the town near Boston where he has lived since 1989. Further he has learned German in school and enjoyed discussions about Goethe’s “Dr. Faust”.
When was the first time you heard about Kachingle?
In the spring of 2010, as publisher of a news site since 2006, I was looking for an online pay model apart from advertising, and I came across it in a Web search. I thought, “Hey, that has a ring to it!”
What is your favorite feature of Kachingle?
I like scrolling through the leaderboard as well as a list of sites like mine, looking for connections.
Do you think the world is ready for saving the Open Web? Or is it too early? Or are people too selfish?
In general, people have both selfish and altruistic sides. Unfettered capitalism tends to encourage the former at the expense of the latter. The openness of human nature reflects the openness of the Web, but the dark side of all is part of the package. Learning how to encourage openness remains the goal.
Which sites are you kachingling the most and why?
Those noted on my profile as well as many others, too many list. I am always searching for a community connection.
Why do you love Kachingle?
Because it reaches out into the chaotic ‘Net jungle and tries to get a bunch of us monkeys to pay a little monthly so we can connect a little monthly, with the hopes of building a community among the palms.
