Today I was reading one of my more often visited blogs. It is a news site about technology. I am using an ad blocker because I am sick of the user generated ads. The site has a method to figure out, that its visitor is using an Ad blocker. Where normally the bouncing and eye unfriendly attention grabbing ads are, there was now a very sad note of them. It said, that they are financing themselves with these kinds of ads (Pay Per View) and that I should please deactivate my blocker on their sites. Obviously I should feel guilty now. But I didn’t for several reasons:
I read the message more than three times on one single site. So they are financing themselves more or less only by the PPV ads.
I was very annoyed by the fact, that there where so many ads on the page, probably ads of companies or products I don’t want to support directly or indirectly. The reason is that I want to decide for myself what kind of content I want to support. Only because I’m finding some good articles to the topics I am interested in on their site, shouldn’t give them the right to bother me with any kind of ads.
So I recently added the site with Kachingle Anything, and started to kachingle it directly. I now know exactly where my money goes and that I support the right content, the one I am interested in.
