As one of the most popular websites in the world, Wikipedia is welcomed as a free and powerful source of information. This online encyclopedia is mainly supported by donation now. Our idea that Wikipedia could be supported through Kachingle was achieved last week. It was a big day in the history of Kachingle. After our work in adding and managing a series of KachingleX Medallion for Wikipedia, the Medallions went live and 8 minutes later there appeared the first Kachingler of Wikipedia English.
Among hundreds of most popular websites on the Internet, Wikipedia is unique. Also, there is no advertising revenue for their Foundation. Thus, we found a great niche to apply Kachingle medallion.
First, we decided to Kachingle the top languages in Wikipedia. They are English, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, German, French, Polish, Dutch and Chinese.
Second, introductions of Wikipedia in different languages were found with the help of Google Translator.
Third, lots of time was spent to seek contact information of Wikimedia divisions worldwide. This was the most difficult part we experienced. The debate was how to distribute users’ supports via Kachingle to Wikimedia Foundation. One opinion was to divide the organization’s world map into different languages. The situation was becoming complex when we found that each languages might be used in various countries while only a few of them might be reached out by the Foundation. Another opinion was to divide by different countries. Unexpectedly, there was no Wikimedia chapter in the United States, which was the most important market for Kachingle.
So we decided to put the Wikimedia’s donation email for all of the Wikipedia sites and we carefully managed every field in the KachingleX community manager page, we finished adding the first KachingleX on Wikipedia. After several hours, we added all 11 medallions. Thanks to the stable system created by our engineers, we could confidently send an email to Wikipedia and the Foundation, announcing how our Kachinglers can now make effortless micropayments to them based on their usage of the Wikipedia sites.
We felt proud of the improvement achieved through the past month, especially on marketing. When the software and the managing tool became mature, we for the first time were able to figure out the strategy to add medallion, which included the plan to take Wikipedia into our scope.
We look forward to many Kachinglers contributing to Wikipedia.
