Kachingle did a soft public launch in last month and we are now spreading our news to the many journalists who have written about us and other journalists and influencers in the crowdfunding, journalism, social media, micropayments space.
Here’s the update we sent:
Kachingle did a soft public launch last month and is now spreading the news to key journalists and influencers, including you.
Although many articles have been written about different approaches for funding online content — Kachingle is the first — with over 100 content sites and 100′s of users — to provide a real working social micropayment service using crowdfunding.
Here are our highlights:
- Kachingle made the world’s first “social micropayments” – we call them “social cents for digital stuff” the week of March 14th. For example, Carta.info, a German digital media, economics, and political commentary site received a $85.92 Pay-Out. Carta’s payments came from 34 Kachinglers, clear evidence that the crowdfunding model works. Similarly, SteveOuting.com, a news industry blog, received a $65.08 Pay-Out from 51 Kachinglers. [These Pay-Outs are after Kachingle’s 10% transaction fee and PayPal’s similar 10% transaction fee.] Our entire system is solid and working flawlessly. Since our alpha launch in November 2009 we have not had a single moment of unscheduled downtime (and only ½ hour of scheduled maintenance downtime!)
- Any Kachingler’s or Site’s payments are visible thus insuring a fraud-free transparent system for distribution of funds. (Note: Kachinglers have privacy options that can dissociate the information from their account however most do not choose to use this feature – they are proud of their contributions!)
- We have many endorsements of Kachingle from site owners.
- Over 100 sites have installed the Kachingle Medallion and hundreds of Kachinglers have signed up. Through PayPal, Kachingle accepts and distributes payments in 24 currencies. The sites are from 7 different countries with English and German being the primary languages. There is a wide array of high-quality sites – here’s just a few examples:
- a daily newspaper of a major U.S. city — DailyCamera of Boulder, CO
- sites focused on investigative reporting — Common Language Project, Center for Public Integrity (just joined), Corporate Governance, many others
- digital media, economics, and political commentary — Carta.info [in German], Cyberjournalist.net
- all forms of news, information and photos covering topics as diverse as wi-fi networks, travel in Turkey, shedworking, environmental issues, local news, Canadian politics, the business of chocolate, interesting thing of the day – some of everything!
- We are quickly adding social networking and viral capabilities including Twitter and Facebook connections, a Facebook application, an awards capability, and many other features.
- Our team is complete and represents a diversified mix of web technology and business professionals from the U.S., Germany, and France. We have two office locations – Silicon Valley and Paris.
We’d love to have you write a story about Kachingle. Please feel free contact us or Yves Huin, Director Kachingle Europe, located in Paris (Skype: yveshuin, email: yves AT kachingle.com).
Thanks.

How Kachingle Works:
- Consumers who want to support their favorite sites sign up with Kachingle at a flat rate of $5 a month
- Sites put a small Kachingle Medallion (a javascript widget) on their pages, which recognizes registered Kachinglers
- Kachinglers click once on the Medallion of each site they choose to support, and from then on their visits to that site are tallied
- Once a month each Kachingler’s $5 is divided up among the sites they kachingle based on their visit
