Now that the payment system is up and running Kachingle engineering is working on the next couple weeks’ round of enhancements.
High on the list is an improved administration tool. The beta version of Kachingle had such a tool, but because of the complete rewrite of the site in php, that admin tool no longer functions. The new admin tool will have the same functionality as the previous one, with some enhancements. As always, we learn a lot by experimentation!
We are also implementing Kachingle’s first automated Twitter tweets. I’ve been experimenting by doing manual tweets of various information at a variety of intervals. I’ve learned a lot about what makes sense and what is news versus noise. Our first automated tweets will be sent by Kachingle itself when a new Site signs up — we will welcome each new Site with a tweet and a blog post.
So far the new kachingle.com website and payment system has performed flawlessly without a single moment of downtime or any bugs. There are some quirks and we are working on them. Please let us know if you see anything that doesn’t seem right or is annoying (send to customercare *A*T* kachingle.com).
By the way, we have a terminology to describe the four phases of the money flow through Kachingle:
*We are planning to lower the Pay-Out threshold to $50 due to input from client sites (thank you Robin!) — AND since quite a few Sites are already above that threshold the first Pay-Outs will be occurring soon.
And because we are all about money (and yes, prestige and building a real-time online persona — but in our case, money makes these other things happen), we are also working on an enhanced easy-to-read truly beautiful combination end-of-month and real-time statement for our Sites. Here’s a mock-up of the Site Statement Page: Continue reading
I’m testing out various formats for blog posts and tweets.
This post/tweet is factual but boring so I won’t be doing it again.
Cynthia the Chief Kachingler
We’ve gone thru a hundred taglines without finding “the one”.
But tonight Rob and I settled on something new, that may be “the one”, or may just be this week’s love child.
The current tag line is “Crowdfunding sites you love”. The prior tag line was “Sprinkle change on the content you love”. And there were a hundred more that had a shelf life from either a split second to a few minutes.
So, here, it is — drum roll:
I already used it in a tweet and it seemed appropriate, at least in Twitterville.
At some point in the past, the tagline was “Social cents for new media”. So the more things change, the more they stay the same!
We will be updating the Kachingle logo, homepage, etc. with the new tagline unless of course we end up changing our minds!
Kachingle welcomes the 3 new Kachingle-enabled Sites:

I’m experimenting with blog posts, doing them manually first to see if they are something that should be automated. This one manually was a lot of work so I won’t be trying it again. Might have Kachingle.com generate it on a daily basis though.

Kachingle welcomes the 3 new Kachingle-enabled Sites that joined yesterday:
Center for Investigative Reporting (their Kachinglers) (their blog post about Kachingle)
Founded in 1977, the Center for Investigative Reporting is the nation’s oldest nonprofit investigative news organization, producing multimedia reporting that has impact and is relevant to people’s lives. Building on our long track record of award-winning print, broadcast and web reporting, CIR is now seeking to help lead the way in transforming journalism for the 21st century.
Daily Monthly (their Kachinglers)
A new concept in journalism. The Daily Monthly offers a single topic each month, covered in-depth every day.
BigGreenBoulder (their Kachinglers)
Energy and environment news from one of the most eco-passionate cities on the planet. This is where eco-trends start.
Wow, we’ve had a busy last few days.
We publicly launched Kachingle a few days ago. While we have been counting financial transactions since our private beta launch last November, the actual display and distribution of the Kachinglers’ payments was not visible till now.
It’s exciting to see exactly where the money is flowing — Kachingle distributes each Kachingler’s $5 monthly Pay-In based on their surfing behavior — which is a proxy for value received. And because Kachingle is a transparent system, each Kachingler can see all of the details of their payments to Sites — this guarantees that the money ends up where it’s supposed to!
I’ve been a Kachingler since October, and so I’ve been thru 3 payment cycles — here you can see all of my payments to the Sites I support publicly. Any Sites I support anonymously are of course not displayed.
Several of our Sites joined the beta quite early and have been thru 2-3 payment cycles. Carta.info is an early adopter of Kachingle — they’ve been paid almost $50 (at the time of this post…of course more money comes in every day so this number will most likely be higher by the time you read this post!).

Hello Kachinglers and Kachingle Site Owners,
Within the next few days Kachingle will be adding new features and capabilities during an evening (PST) software upgrade. Medallion(s) on your site will continue to function normally and count visits during the upgrade, but the Kachingle.com site itself will be unavailable for several hours.
After the upgrade, one of Kachingle’s primary features will become available — the ability to see Payments in action. Our medallions have been counting visits since the beta launch, and with this upgrade Kachinglers will be able to see their Payments to the sites they support. In addition, the upgrade will enable Site Owners to track their Kachingle income and see when incoming Payments become Pay-Outs to their PayPal accounts. (A Pay-Out occurs when a site has accumulated $100 or more in Payments from Kachinglers.) For more information on payments, see our FAQ (http://beta.kachingle.com/help/faq#own).
Also part of the upgrade are several usability improvements that make the site more user-friendly for both Kachinglers and Site Owners.
You can follow the latest Kachingle developments on our blog (http://blog.kachingle.com). If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or feedback, please log them on our community page (http://getsatisfaction.com/kachingle) or contact us via email at beta@kachingle.com .
Below are screen shots from the updated Kachingle site now complete with payments on the real live data. This rev is now on our staging server as we do the last bit of testing.
Note that in the screen above, Cynthia’s payment to Carta.info is displayed in her list, and below that same payment is displayed in the Carta.info list. So both parties — the Kachingler and the Site Owner, see the information on their view, which is also visible to everyone. This ensures that the payment by each Kachingler can be verfied to have actually been passed to the Site.
Cynthia can also look at her Sites I Own for an overview of the Payment status to each of them, and then drill down for the monthly Statements and Pay-Out details.
