Kachingle Opens European Office

We are pleased to announce the opening of Kachingle Europe, and the hiring of Yves Huin as its General Manager and Director.

Yves has very deep international business development experience for both US and European software, computer services, internet and communications companies. He also has expertise in business engineering and internet business models, international trade, and multi cultural project management. He earned his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Ecole Centrale Lyon, and his MBA from IAE Paris. He worked for many years for British Petroleum (BP) and has consulted for France Telecom, Oracle, NTT, EDF, Alstom, ABB, Siemens, Thomson, and the European Union. He has also served as a Foreign Trade Advisor for the French Government.

Yves has been a colleague and friend of Cynthia Typaldos (Kachingle’s founder) for more than 15 years. He was a business consultant for her first internet startup, GolfWeb, in 1995, and a teaching colleague of hers in the late ’90s at UC Berkeley Extension about business models. He served as a sounding board for Cynthia in 2004 when she first conceived of Kachingle.

Yves currently spends about two-thirds of his time in Paris, and one-third in the U.S. He speaks English, French and Romanian.

His role at Kachingle will be to represent Kachingle to the European press, attend relevant journalism and internet content business conferences in Europe, represent Kachingle in business development meetings with content providers/partners, and keep us informed of trends and opportunities in Europe.

He can be reached at Yves(dot)Huin at Kachingle(dot)com.

Aspen Follow-Up

Kachingle’s Cynthia Typaldos was part of a who’s who 50-person intimate forum on the future of journalism, hosted by the famed Aspen Institute out of Colorado. Titled “Of the Press: Models for Preserving American Journalism,” participants came from publishing, high tech, government and the non-profit world…and included MediaNews’ CEO Dean Singleton, NPR’s Vivian Schiller, the LA Times former editor John Carroll, Salon’s CEO Richard Gingras, News Corp’s Chief Digital Officer Jon Miller, Google’s VP of Search Marissa Mayer and Craigslist founder Craig Newmark.

The morning sessions were streamed live. You can replay them by going to the GroundReport website here.

Here’s where you can see Cynthia’s report to the conference positioning Kachingle against some of the other proposed revenue solutions, including Journalism Online.

Aspen Conference on Future of American Journalism

We’re going to be participating in what promises to be a small, lively forum next week, with some of the world’s top publishers, high tech execs, and business leaders…on the future of American journalism, and we’d love to get your ideas on what you might want addressed.

Called “Of the Press: Models for Preserving American Journalism,” it’s being sponsored by the prestigious Colorado-based Aspen Institute Forum on Communications and Society. The Aspen Institute’s CEO Walter Isaacson, who has been CNN’s Chairman and CEO, as well as Time Magazine’s Executive Editor, has invited 50 participants to examine and IMPROVE ON three types of models:

1) How would you create and staff a new news organization for a large metropolitan community?
2) Same as above, but for a hyper-local model?
3) And what kind of payment model would you create so enterprise journalism could flourish?

Of course, number 3 is what interests us the most, but like all the participants, we’ll be asked to share our opinions on all three questions.

The group of 50 will include Dean Singleton, CEO of MediaNews…online media mavens Paul Steiger, Editor-in-chief and CEO of ProPublica; and Richard Gingras, CEO of Salon…Editor Marcus Brauchli, Washington Post; former editors John Carroll, LA Times; and Mike Fancher, Seattle Times…high tech execs Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist; Marissa Mayer, VP of Search Products for Google; Brad Smith, Senior VP for Microsoft, John Lilly, CEO of Mozilla…public radio CEOs Vivian Schiller of NPR; and Bill Kling from American Public Media…academics Jon Funabiki, Professor of Journalism at SF State; and Stephen Shepard, Founding Dean at the Graduate School of Journalism, City University of New York…and government officials like former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright; and Jon Leibowitz, Chairman of the FCC.

Gordon Crovitz from Journalism Online; and our founder, Cynthia Typaldos, of Kachingle, will offer perspectives of alternative monetization models. You can find a complete list by clicking here…

It should be fun. But any suggestions or comments you want to send our way would be welcomed. You can find a link for the conference by clicking here.
