Kachingle’s Cynthia Typaldos was part of a forum Monday night at the San Francisco Commonwealth Club, discussing the future of newspapers. Joining her were Hearst Corp’s Executive Editor Phil Bronstein, UC Berkeley School of Journalism professor Lowell Bergman, and Spot.Us’s Kara Andrade. Some great quotes from Bronstein, including:
“The old model (where revenues accounted for) 80% advertising / 20% circulation is dead. But let me ask you, how much are you willing to pay for your news? $5? Less? More? We’re now asking those questions.”
“The sad thing about the demise of traditional media is the end of a national common consciousness.”
“There will be lots of experimentation. Panic can be a great motivator. 20,000 journalists have lost their jobs. Shouldn’t we look at all means of funding?”
We couldn’t agree more. Look for the beta launch of Kachingle later this summer.
Video of the event can be found at Fora.tv.
